Niall Cullen is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Dublin, Ireland. His work has been exhibited and screened internationally in cities including Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Rotterdam, and throughout Ireland.Cullen’s practice sits at the intersection of spiritual enquiry and dark humour. He works with improvisational cinematography, sampling, painting, drawing, text, collage, animation, and sound. His visual language is shaped by a DIY, punk sensibility, fusing obsolete analog camera technologies with contemporary digital tools. His filmmaking roots lie in the creation of experimental skateboarding videos under an alias — work that continues to inform his aesthetic and approach.Television from 1990s and early 2000s, skateboarding culture, Irish myth and sampling new media are a huge source of inspiration and research material. The work manifests itself in gallery spaces, cinema and non-traditional spaces through a variety of outcomes; installations, screenings, paintings, drawings, digital image, musical / audio compositions and performance (presented both live & through film).
